Summary
About Me

I am a universally technically competent, self-taught, perfectionist web developer with a sense and passion for art, design and beauty.

Currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology and Networking with focus on web-development through FHSU entirely online, I also work as a full-time, highly successful sales manager and mentor.

While my primary focus is creating cool and beautiful things, I have years of client-facing and sales experience, and have worked for a decade dealing with the most difficult of circumstances, winning year after year!

Whether in my day job, or as a developer, I solve problems and deliver results, and I constantly drive to learn new things and expand my horizon.

I am awesome, and you should hire me!

Questions

computers
  • Why do you like computers?
  • I have always said: Computers talk to me. The digital world is my passion and my calling. I even go to school online!
  • Are you a student?
  • Yes! I am a virtual student at Fort Hays State University.
  • What would you like to master someday?
  • In the next five years I plan to learn or develop the following skills:

    • Develop my Javascript skills in NodeJS, Angular
    • Learn the MEAN stack and MongoDB
    • Dive into Wordpress and create advanced features and themes
    • Develop and write my own Content Management System
    • I am always learning, taking free courses online, and reading as much as I can, so who knows what the future will hold!
programming
  • What are your favorite tools?
  • My MacbookPro, Brackets, MAMP, Git, I could go on…
  • Do!
  • For Development:
    • Brackets, Chrome, MAMP, Git and Chrome. I use Atom and Sublime 2 as well. Of course the OSC Command Line.
    For Design:
    • Glyphs, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign. I used to be a Paint Shop Pro guy, but it’s Windows only.
    Other Creative Arts:
    • I write music with Reason 7
    • 3D Software, like with Cinema4D and Animation Master, compositing in After Effects. I cut my movies with Apple iMovie for brevity, but I can use Adobe Premiere as well.
    Odds and Ends:
    • I find Color Picker quite useful, VirtualBox (In which I run Win7 and Linux). Keynote, (Fountain)-Pen and Paper are great for quick mock-ups.
    • Microsoft Office Suite, Apple’s OSX equivalent and Apache’s Open Office as well as the Libre Office fork.
  • What is your favorite programming language?
  • Right now probably Javascript.
  • Why?
  • It’s not hard to learn coming from other C-like programming languages, and you can do really cool things with websites! Also, I am intrigued by interpreted languages. And I like first class functions. And the object/array structures. And desktop/server use of JS. And, and, and…
creative arts
  • In your opinion what traits make an artist, an artist?
  • I think an artist has an unquenchable drive to create, and can’t rest or be happy until he does.
  • How do you know about design?
  • Read, learn, listen. I intuit.
I am passionate about beauty, form and function, and I follow and observe some of the great trends and masters in the field and try my best to keep up.
  • How would you define your “creative process”?
  • I tend to work very intuitively. I usually spend too much time procrastinating, then I shovel out a thousand ideas, and then narrow it down to the right one. Of course when you “procrastinate”, you are really always thinking about everything subconsciously, taking in everything you see, and when you put it to paper, it’s usually way better than something you have to force out of thin air.
Of course, that does not mean that I cannot meet deadlines, I am well accustomed to deliver high quality work in very little to no time flat.
  • What is your favorite song?
  • I actually love writing music myself (of course digitally, using Reason 7). I write classical music, and I write electronic music, and sometimes both together. If I could, I would love to write music for a living.
Some of my greatest musical influences and loves are: David Arnold, Depeche Mode, Falco, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Robert Schumann, Jerry Goldsmith.
  • Can I sample your art?
  • art.moritzzimmer.com
    will get you started.
skills
  • What (programming & markup) languages do you know?
  • Right now HTML, CSS/SASS, Javascript/jQuery, php, MySQL, Python, C, but I’m always learning more!
  • What Software do you know?
  • I learn new software quickly and intuitively, so this list is really never complete!

    For Development:
    • Brackets, Chrome, MAMP, Git and Chrome. I use Atom and Sublime 2 as well. Of course the OSX Command Line.
    For Design:
    • Glyphs, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign. I used to be a Paint Shop Pro guy.

    • Microsoft Office Suite, Apple’s OSX equivalent and Apache’s Open Office as well as the Libre Office fork.
  • Any other skills?
  • On the soft-skills side:

    • I have spent almost a decade in client facing Sales position, I have managed teams of up to 5 people, I have successfully mentored and grown half a dozen managers.
    • I am fluent in English & German.
this website
  • What fonts are those?
  • My own. The sans is Kambri, a modern take on Akzidenz Gortesk. The cursive is Desilez, an original design for this website!
  • Can I use them?
  • Contact me!
  • What scripts does this website use?
  • Quite a few, actually!

Most of it is purpose written for this website, but I do make prominent use of the following 3rd Party Plugins:

    I also use my own:

  • Do you use a CMS?
  • Not for this site. My creative and pioneering spirit is sometimes not content with somebody else’s software. Though I am toying with the idea of writing my own Content Manangement Software.
background
  • Where are you from?
  • I am from Germany. I currently live, work and carry out my days in the United States, though I have a residence in both places. I am an international person, and I will do work around the world!
  • Do you have other Hobbies?
  • I have a model railroad I wish I had more time for, vintage clothes I spend my money on, and I like running and mountain biking. The rest of my time I fill with doing what I love — creating!
